Breaking bread

Imagine you are the first human in history who’s trying to make bread (you are not actually baking it and seeing how the recipe turns out). Sure, you can adjust the ingredients and other variables all you want. But, if you never get to bake and eat the finished product, how will you know what works and what doesn’t? Should the ratio of flour to water be 3:1 or 2:1? What happens if you add salt or oil or yeast? Should the dough be left to sit before baking and if so, for how long and under what conditions? How long will it need to bake? Covered or uncovered? How hot should the fire be?

Even with good feedback, it can take a while to learn. But without it, you don’t stand a chance; you will go on making the same mistakes forever. The best way to get a sure short answer is to bake the bread and see it for yourself how it turns out.

Now let’s put this into context for entrepreneurs who are at the idea stage…

The product is flawed

There are competitors

It is really hard to launch

I don’t know how to go about it

These questions and many more stop individuals from taking steps forward, fearing that it might not work out. Fear that we’ll waste our time. So instead, we wait for perfect moment. We wait for the one, that’s a sweet combination of unique genius, no competition, that requires nothing new from us, no new learning, everything is known.

A simple advice to sum things up -

Dance with the idea. Play with it. Try things out. Embrace the unknown. Embrace the likelihood of failure.
